What it Means to Specialize in Senior’s Real Estate

As we age, our needs, preferences and priorities often change. Specializing in Senior’s Real Estate often requires more time and patience than other sales. Sometimes a homeowner is not ready to move and simply needs to ensure their home is safe and functional. Other times, the homeowner may realize they need to downsize or move to a single-story home, but the thought of dealing with all of their belongings, moving and settling into a new home is overwhelming. Every situation is as unique as the people involved. A specialist can provide referrals for things like estate planning, estate sales, local assisted living and board & care homes, and contractors who can make updates for safety and comfort for homeowners who want to continue living at home as long as possible

I’ve always had a soft spot for the elders in my life and my community. Maybe that’s because I was blessed with very close relationships with both of my grandmothers. Or maybe it’s because my mom introduced me to volunteering in convalescent homes during my youth; seeing patients’ faces light up when we young visitors came in made me see how a smile and small kindness could make a big difference to someone who was lonely or sad. At this stage in my life, I’m watching my own parents and in-laws face decisions about their health and living situations. I see first hand that this can be overwhelming, both for them and sometimes for the whole family, too. I hope to ease the difficulty for my clients by being empathetic, sensitive and compassionate while helping to navigate the home selling process, from beginning to end.
